Not long ago—though it feels like yesterday—I witnessed a moment that’s etched in my mind for all the wrong reasons. It was supposed to be a celebration. A dream fulfilled. Closing day.
For this client, it wasn’t just a house. It was her “Willow.” She had named it that. Each selection, every finish, every little detail—she had poured her heart into it. It was a masterpiece in her eyes, and ours too.
As a gesture, we prepared a slide show of the finished home, showcasing her hard work and vision coming to life. The mood in the room was pure joy, smiles all around. Then, in walks the real estate agent. The one earning a $25,000+ commission check.
The client beamed with pride, watching the images of her “Willow” on the screen. She turned to the agent, eyes sparkling, and asked with genuine excitement:
“Do you like my home?”
His response?
“That’s not your home.”
Silence. A collective what-the-hell hung in the air.
He was dead serious. And dead wrong.
