At Build-Guard, we don’t just understand the homebuilding process — we’ve lived it from every angle.

My name is Scott Grant.  My journey began in law enforcement, first as a police officer and then a detective, where attention to detail and protecting the public were more than just duties — they were a way of life. That same integrity and investigative mindset transitioned into a successful real estate career, where helping people navigate deals and avoid pitfalls became second nature.

But the true crucible came in the world of homebuilding. As the owner of a premier residential construction company, we built more than 100 custom homes and managed hundreds of contractors, subcontractors, and staff. The business rose to the top of the industry, known for its craftsmanship, efficiency, and trusted relationships — a model of how to do it right.

Then came the next chapter: a strategic acquisition agreement intended to transition leadership and continue the legacy. But instead of growth, the new management brought alleged misconduct, mismanagement, and ultimately, alleged theft, all lead by M. McCauley — dragging the once-thriving company into the 11th chapter. The good, the great, the better… all undone by the careless and the corrupt that not even a seasoned detective saw coming.

Following the strategic transition of leadership, the company encountered serious challenges. The acquisition lead, M. McCauley, is currently under continued investigations for alleged theft and embezzlement involving multiple companies, reportedly totaling well over $1 million. In Johnson County District Court, a recent civil judgment that involved our company, (Case No. 20CV‑12345) was entered against him for $156,000, demonstrating the gravity of the financial misconduct. 

What was designed as a succession plan instead proved to be a cautionary tale—and a key catalyst for the creation of Build‑Guard.
